More common ground, fewer blank starts
A personalised AI language partner is useful when a generic “tell me about your day” does not give you much to say. Merdi’s matching flow asks about the things you enjoy and the kind of conversation you prefer, then creates a character around that context.
Your interests might be food, books, technology or the outdoors. You might enjoy playful conversation, thoughtful questions or someone who is happy to take things slowly. Those preferences help shape a background, personality and setting with a reason for you to start talking.
Choose more than a name and portrait
Open the Add button and choose to find a friend. Start with your learning language and a little about your everyday life. Then select interests, a conversation style, your goal and a level. You can also add context in your own words, such as wanting to talk about travel before a trip.
The result brings those choices together in a character profile. You can read the background and the reasons you might get along before opening the conversation. If it does not feel right, change your answers and try a different direction. You can also choose an existing character without completing the matching flow.
Let the language shape the setting
The standard French characters are a starting collection, not a restriction on custom matching. The language field is configurable, so a match can have a different language, city and background. For example, choosing Portuguese and an interest in design gives the creation process different context from French and hiking.
These are fictional characters created for language practice. A generated profile is not a real local resident or a promise of expert knowledge. Language quality and cultural detail can vary, and you can ask for clarification when something sounds unfamiliar.
Keep the conversation yours
Matching sets the starting point. It does not lock you into a topic or require you to share the same interests forever. You can talk about what is happening in your life, change the subject or ask for help with a sentence.
As you chat, remembered details can help the conversation become more specific. The profile supplies a character; what you choose to discuss gives the friendship its ongoing context. You can start small and share more only when it is useful to your practice.
